Reducing paper usage & printing costs — more sustainable communication
Veolia Towers Hamburg is now offering their game day magazine TOWERFUL in an interactive, digital version.
Veolia Towers Hamburg, one of the most ambitious teams in German basketball, made their matchday magazine TOWERFUL available in printed form in the first ten years after its founding. But the classic 16-page booklet, which was distributed at home games, was increasingly reaching its limits.
In a world where digital content on mobile devices is increasingly preferred, the challenge was to develop a modern and interactive format. At the same time, the club wanted to operate more sustainably, reduce paper consumption and enable direct, flexible communication with fans.
In collaboration with tech start-up Webmag, the game day magazine was converted into a digital format. The Webmag Editor made it possible to create a responsive design that is perfectly adapted to smartphones, tablets and desktop PCs.
Thanks to this template, editors can independently design future issues with minimal effort. The digital TOWERFUL is released just in time for every home game and can be accessed via QR codes in the Inselpark Arena or online. Even short-term changes or matchday updates can now be communicated flexibly. Thanks to an API integration, all league data can also be retrieved in real time.
The digital magazine is also integrated into the Veolia Towers fan interaction. In addition to match day coverage, it offers exclusive insights into club life, interviews with players and coaches, background stories about easyCredit BBL and the BKT EuroCup, as well as current statistics and facts about the opponents.
Since the introduction of the digital TOWERFUL, fans of Veolia Towers Hamburg have been experiencing a completely new type of game day communication.
The first digital issues were successfully published and met with a positive response. The interactive options, direct integration into the digital fan journey and the sustainability of the format are particularly appreciated. Spectators can easily access the magazine via QR code and use the free WiFi in the arena.
And the new digital matchday magazine also pays off for the environment. Thanks to the absence of a print product, Veolia Towers can produce around 500 kilograms of paper per year — the equivalent of just under 100,000 DIN A4 pages.
